National Native Title Conference 2013 - Alice Springs

This year’s Annual National Native Title Conference, convened by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) and the Central Land Council (CLC) was held on the traditional lands of the Central Arrernte People, the Native Title Holders of the Alice Springs area. 

The Conference held at the Alice Springs Convention Centre from 3-5 June was an opportunity for people to come together and engage in debate, including native title holders and claimants, traditional owners, native title representative bodies and service agencies, the Federal Court, National Native Title Tribunal, Commonwealth and State government agencies, academics, consultants and industry representatives. 

This year a small contingent of NQLC representatives including Board Members, Traditional Owners and staff from NQLC attended the Conference to participate in the discussions over the three days of the Conference.  Some of the highlights include discussions around Constitutional Recognition, the establishment of a First National Assembly and Language, Cultural and Land management.
