What we do.
What we can do for you
We can help you understand your Native Title rights and help you if you want to claim your native title rights under the Native Title Act.
We help traditional owners negotiate Native Title agreements with non-aboriginal people and organisations.
We make sure that non-aboriginal groups are aware of the rights of Native Title holders.
We take action if the rights of traditional owners have been ignored.
We help Native Title holders who are involved with land use agreements and town planning matters, following a Native Title agreement.
We help you protect Sacred Sites and look after country.
How We Work.
The NQLC interacts and receives direction on the day to day business of progressing your Native Title claims from each claim group Native Title Working Group.
The membership of the Working Group is left to the traditional processes of each Native Title Claim Group. There is no specified number of members in a Native Title Working Group, generally they usually number 8-15 members. the Native Title Working Group's role is to:
Meet with the NQLC claim team (in house Lawyers, Project Officers and Anthropologist) to give instructions about the direction of the claim;
They regularly attend mediation sessions and conduct negotiations in conjunction with the NQLC claim team and make agreements that recognise their Native Title;
They must keep other family/group members informed of claim
developments;
They are notified of any Future Acts by official notices under the
Native Title Act;
The Native Title Working Group members must be available and ready to meet regularly to progress your Native Title claim; and
For major decisions about your Native Title the NQLC may need to conduct "Authorisation Meetings" with the broader claim group according to the provisions of the Native Title Act.
